CM Punk recalls reaching out to Triple H following his heart issue and how it ultimately led to his WWE return in 2023.
Triple H took time away from WWE in the Fall of 2021 after suffering a cardiac event that ultimately led to his in-ring retirement before he would end up taking over the company following Vince McMahon’s initial departure in July 2022.
Triple H’s Heart Issues Led To CM Punk’s WWE Return
Speaking to All The Smoke: Unplugged, Punk opened up on how he reached out to Triple H to bury the hatchet after his heart issue, and how that ultimately got the ball rolling on his return.
He said:
“My favourite thing is when Triple H isn’t at Raw, and it’s not because ‘oh the boss is away’ or anything like that. I know he’s at a daddy/daughter dance, I know he’s at his daughter’s football game, and it makes me feel, it’s wholesome, because we’ve had the conversations, it’s how we got to the point where I was asked ‘hey what does it look like, can we get you to come back?’
“It was because after a while I reached out to Triple H and I knew he had this heart condition thing, and I had seen a clip of Hogan and the Warrior, and everything we do is filmed, what’s real, what’s not, and it’s Hogan, so you don’t know what’s the truth, but they’re having this conversation and kind of apologising and forgiving each other, then a couple of days later the Ultimate Warrior dies.
“It just made me realise this s**t ain’t worth it, and I don’t care, and I get a call from Nick (Khan) like ‘hey, we want you to come back’. Oh. Interesting. What does that look like? Is the place different? It’s so wildly different, and if it wasn’t I wouldn’t be here.”

Will CM Punk Take Over From Triple H In WWE?
With Triple H now serving as WWE’s head of creative for the past four years, a lot of fans are beginning to grow frustrated with the WWE product, particularly after what has been considered an underwhelming road to WrestleMania 42.
There are a number of current WWE names that have been debated as potential names to potentially take over from Triple H when he decides to step down from his role, including CM Punk and Cody Rhodes.
While Triple H will remain the head of creative for the foreseeable future, he could do with a fresh group of names around him on the team, with Punk and Cody among the names that could bring new fresh ideas to the table.
