CM Punk has recalled a heartfelt conversation with Bray Wyatt following the split of WWE’s The Nexus in 2011.
Two years before Windham Rotunda became the cult leader character of Bray Wyatt in WWE, he would first debut as Husky Harris, initially as a contestant on Season Two of NXT, before eventually being called up to become a member of The Nexus later that year.
In January 2011, CM Punk took over the reins of The Nexus from former leader Wade Barrett, but lost several of his followers to storyline injuries throughout the build to his WrestleMania 27 feud with Randy Orton.
One of the Nexus members that Orton took out of action, courtesy of a Punt Kick was Bray Wyatt – and unlike others that were written off TV, Wyatt was sent back to developmental rather than returning to Raw or SmackDown.
Speaking on WWE Break it Down, CM Punk recalled feeling “upset” for his former Nexus stablemate, but Bray himself was in high spirits – telling Punk that he would one day see him in a main event match at WrestleMania.
Punk said:
“I was upset for Bray because he was being sent back down to developmental, and he was in high spirits and he said ‘Hey don’t worry man, I’m gonna go back down there I’m gonna figure myself out and I’m gonna come back up here and someday me and you are gonna main event WrestleMania and I thought that was really cool.”

Wyatt would eventually return to WWE’s main roster at SummerSlam 2013 along with The Wyatt Family (Erick Rowan & Luke Harper).
While Punk and Bray would never get the opportunity to face off one-on-one in WWE, they did feud in the Fall of 2013, with Harper and Rowan facing off with Daniel Bryan and Punk at Survivor Series 2013.
