Today marks the nine year anniversary of Money in the Bank 2011. While the whole show was excellent, the highlight was the main event between CM Punk and John Cena. The match is considered one of the best in WWE history.
Now, nine years later, Punk has taken to Twitter to reflect on one of the biggest moments of his career. Here is the tweet:
I did a thing nine years ago. Couldn’t have done it without @JohnCena, @WWEArmstrong and most importantly the fans. That crowd, that atmosphere is something I’ll never forget. Thank you all. #MITB

Money in the Bank 2011 was a legendary night for WWE. The event came shortly after Punk’s famous “Pipe Bomb” promo where he promised to leave WWE with the WWE Championship. While fans thought they would probably see something special, they were treated to a magical match. Punk’s hometown crowd in Chicago was one of the best crowds in WWE history and they saw a great match.
To date, this is the last main roster WWE match to get a five-star rating from Dave Meltzer. Punk winning the WWE Championship for the first time was an incredible moment to cap off an incredible night.
