CM Punk has responded to recent comments from Triple H regarding a recent disagreement they had with creative.
Since his return to WWE, CM Punk has mended fences with Triple H after a previously rocky relationship between the two men ahead of his initial WWE departure in 2014.
Triple H now heads up WWE’s creative, and he recently opened up in an interview about a creative disagreement he had with Punk, and how they handled it.
Triple H said:
“We’ve had a couple of moments since his return, there was one moment where he’d return and they told him something creatively and they told me, ‘He does not like this.’ I was like, ‘Okay, I’ll talk to him.’ Went and talked to him. ‘What’s going on?’ I told him the creative and he was like, ‘That’s good, whatever.’ I was like, ‘I know you don’t like it. Everybody’s told me. Let’s be open.’ He complained about what it was and I said, ‘Let’s go sit and talk about it and come up with something good.’
“That sort of changed, it was like a paradigm shift for us relationship-wise, and now, it’s a funny thing for me to say, sitting down and being collaborative with CM Punk is one of my favorite things in TV because he shares a very similar view at the end of the day of the business as I do.”
During an appearance on the Ringer Wrestling Show, CM Punk responded to Triple H’s comments, where he noted that he wasn’t sure of the specific instance, and that he hasn’t reacted in any jarringly negative way since his return.
He said:
“I’m more surprised because I actually don’t know what specific thing he’s talking about. Since I’ve been back, I don’t necessarily think I’ve ever really reacted in a jarring negative way that I would have back in 2011 or 2013. Our relationship, for a heartbeat, I thought he was talking about, I remember very distinctly because it was in Anaheim, California. This was full on being hurt, sick, and injured. This was 2013.
“I needed to be taken off the hamster wheel and nobody is going to do that, they were just going to run me until I die. I remember yelling at writers and then Triple H coming up to me and being like, ‘You’re yelling at all the writers, what’s wrong?’ And me just being like, ‘Nothing, everything is fine.’ That was our relationship before. I was like, ‘Why am I going to share with you what’s wrong when…..’ It was a real weird dynamic shift because I went from being an underneath guy with him being in the main event full-time talent, and then all of a sudden he’s my boss.”
