A big update has now emerged on potential plans for WWE to run one last match between CM Punk and John Cena.
Ever since Cena announced this year would be his last, CM Punk was near the top of many fans’ lists of dream matches.
Cena and Punk of course had a rivalry over a decade ago, most famously their match at Money in the Bank 2011 that saw Punk defeat Cena in Punk’s hometown of Chicago.
With this year’s Money in the Bank now just over three weeks away, fans have wondered if WWE would hold a Cena vs Punk match at the event as a callback to the one in 2011.
It appears that’s not the case, but it doesn’t mean the match won’t be happening at all.
As reported by PWInsider Elite, Cena vs Punk is not in the current plans for the Money in the Bank premium live event, according to several WWE creative sources.
However, one source did specifically say that the company wants to hold the match later this year “when the timing is right”.
As for Cena’s plans at Money in the Bank, there have reportedly been pitches for him to be part of a tag match or a six-man tag match, teaming up with Travis Scott – you can read more on that at this link.
