Former two-time WWE Champion AJ Styles says he “expected a problem” with CM Punk following his return to the company.
At WWE Survivor Series 2023, CM Punk made his return to the company in front of his hometown of Chicago. Despite suffering a torn triceps injury in his first match back at Royal Rumble 2024, Punk has remained a consistent presence in the promotion and on programming.
During a WrestleMania week interview with The Ringer Wrestling Show, AJ Styles was asked how he felt when CM Punk returned to WWE last November. He answered:
“I mean, if you know anything about AJ Styles and CM Punk, you would know that we really don’t care for each other. But if you want me to ruin everything that you think you know, I can.”
“Past performance predicts future behavior, right? Some over at AEW are my best friends – love ‘em, trust ‘em, know ‘em. And I was expecting a problem when [Punk] came here – and I was wrong.”
“The guy looks like he’s happy to be here. He looks like a guy that I’d want to step in the ring with and tear the house down with.”
AJ Styles will face LA Knight on WrestleMania Sunday. On the same card, CM Punk will serve on commentary for the Seth Rollins vs. Drew McIntyre World Heavyweight Title match.
