WWE World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk is taking on a dark role for an upcoming horror movie set for a theatrical release early next year.
While animation fans will soon see Punk as a zebra cop in Zootopia 2, that won’t be the only time he’ll be portraying an enforcer of the law in a movie in the coming months.
January 16 of next year will see the US theatrical release of the Ryan Prows-directed movie Night Patrol, released by Shudder.
A recent trailer has given us a first look at the movie, which also stars Justin Long and focuses on an LAPD officer who “must put aside his differences with the area’s street gangs when he discovers a local police task force is harboring a horrific secret that endangers the residents of the housing projects he grew up in.”
In the trailer for the movie – which you can view below this news story – Long’s character can be seen discussing the difficulties of being a patrol officer, being viewed in a negative light.
Noting that “there are a few bad apples out there”, we get our first look at Punk, who is playing one such lawman, part of the titular Night Patrol.
With Long’s character seeking to get into the elusive group, we discover why they are called Night Patrol and why Shudder would be giving viewers a cop movie.
It turns out that Night Patrol are actually vampires, with the community fighting back against an evil and Long’s character having to overcome his own dark destiny.
The trailer shows us some of the action and humor that horror movie fans can expect from the producers of The First Omen and Hellraiser.
Night Patrol is co-written by Prows, Tim Cairo, Jake Gibson and Shaye Ogbonna, the latter of whom wrote an episode of the HBO series The Penguin.
CM Punk is currently the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, defeating Jey Uso to win the vacant title at the November 1 Saturday Night’s Main Event special.
