CM Punk’s next WWE rivalry has potentially been revealed, following a series of events culminating with the Chicago Holiday Tour event.
Punk was in action in a major match during his return to Chicago, with the popular star challenging for GUNTHER’s World Heavyweight Championship in a steel cage match on Sunday night (December 29).
While Punk had a good showing, it was GUNTHER who left the arena as champion, following some interesting interference.
After hitting GUNTHER with a GTS, Punk attempted to escape the cage through the door, but was stopped by Dominik Mysterio.
‘Dirty Dom’ slammed the door in Punk’s face, allowing GUNTHER to escape the cage and retain his World Heavyweight Championship.
With Mysterio costing Punk the gold, it has been heavily speculated that these two will soon bring their rivalry to WWE TV.
The duo have a lot of history together, with Punk notably taunting Dominik as a child during his feud with Rey Mysterio in 2010.
Dominik was notably CM Punk’s first opponent following his WWE return last year, with the duo wrestling on the December 2023 Holiday Tour circuit ahead of Punk’s televised in-ring return at Royal Rumble 2024.
While what happens at WWE house shows is usually treated as non-canon, numerous WWE feuds over the years have been tested out on these non-televised events, before being brought to TV.
Punk and Mysterio have clashed at several house shows recently, with Punk notably saving Damian Priest from Mysterio and Ludwig Kaiser’s beatdown while wearing a towel at the December 26 Madison Square Garden show.
CM Punk is currently preparing to face Seth Rollins on the January 6 Netflix premiere edition of WWE Raw.
