An update has emerged on the possibility of CM Punk being involved in an upcoming WWE premium live event in Saudi Arabia.
During Backlash this past Saturday, it was confirmed that WWE Night of Champions would be returning this year, taking place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on June 28.
Several names were featured in the promo video for Night of Champions, but one that caused some discussion was CM Punk.
Prior to his 2023 WWE return, Punk had made comments criticizing WWE’s partnership with Saudi Arabia, including a 2020 tweet to The Miz telling him, “Go suck a blood money covered dick in Saudi Arabia you f**king dork”.
Given his past comments, there had been a question over whether Punk would ever take part in WWE’s Saudi Arabia shows, or if he’d opt out as some others have done in the past.
Today, the official Riyadh Season social media page reposted the same promo video for Night of Champions that aired during WWE Backlash, but with one noticeable change.
CM Punk’s appearance in the video was cut out, and was replaced with a clip of Seth Rollins.
As of now, there’s no official word on whether Punk will or won’t be part of the event – it could just be that the Riyadh Season social media decided to remove him from the video even if he’s still planned for the show.
If WWE uses the same promotional video again during a show or on its own social media, it’ll be worth keeping an eye on whether Punk is removed from WWE’s version, as perhaps that would tell more of a story.
Punk made a comment on a recent Instagram livestream when he was asked why he hates going to Saudi Arabia, replying:
“I’ve never been to Saudi. I don’t hate coming to Saudi.”
We’ll keep you posted if any further updates on Punk’s status for WWE Night of Champions emerge.
