CM Punk Says He Thinks About Being An Extra For John Cena’s WWE WrestleMania 22 Entrance Every Time He Walks Into Work

WWE World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk has named the WrestleMania moment he will never forget, one he doesn’t think fans would be able to guess.

While Punk’s WrestleMania in-ring debut saw him compete in the Money in the Bank ladder match at WrestleMania 23, his first on-screen appearance at the Show of Shows took place during the previous year’s main event.

In a new video shared by WWE, CM Punk recalled being part of John Cena’s entrance at WrestleMania 22 as an extra, ahead of Cena defending the WWE Championship against Triple H.

Noting that he thinks about that moment every time he arrives for work 20 years later, Punk said:

“The WrestleMania moment that I will never forget, Nobody in a million years would be able to guess this one.

“WrestleMania 22, Allstate Arena, Chicago, Illinois. I was an extra that day, and I rode to the ring on a gangster car. I stood outside the ring and I watched Triple H and John Cena go nose to nose.

“It helped me see the path forward to the future I would eventually breathe life into. I think about that moment every day I walk into work.”

The phrase “work until your idols become your rivals” seems pretty apt here, with Punk going on to share the ring with Triple H and John Cena numerous times as both friends and foes.

Punk has been involved with numerous memorable moments at WrestleMania events in the years since his extra appearance, most recently headlining WrestleMania 41 Saturday against Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins in 2025.

He will defend his World Heavyweight Championship on WrestleMania 42 Sunday on April 19.
