CMLL Releases Two Top Stars

CMLL Releases Two Top Stars

CMLL has announced that Dragon Lee and new ROH World Champion RUSH have been released from the promotion.

The company released the following statement on Twitter:

“CMLL has been forged by some of the greatest figures in Lucha Libre throughout 86 years, characterized by its discipline and seriousness. That is why it is announced that starting now, RUSH and Dragon Lee are no longer part of our company for not complying with committing to programming and company guidelines.”

Dragon Lee competed at PWG’s BOLA tournament, which is reportedly the reason he was fired, as he was told not to by CMLL.

Lee  posted the following reaction to the news on Twitter:

“I feel surprised that a company so serious, of which I have been very loyal, dedicating my life, my body and my attention, elevating CMLL around the world and even in companies and places they wouldn’t let me because of the company’s ego, but I did it for the love of lucha libre and wanted to grow.

I don’t understand why CMLL announced my firing when I haven’t told them I was leaving and much less spoken to my father La Bestia and my brother RUSH, who announced his release. But hey, I’m out and it looks like they ran me out. I can’t believe it.

I welcome this new chapter in my life. I’m thankful for Mr. Francisco Alonso, who always gave me his support, trusted in me and gave me many opportunities.”

Rush – who as mentioned defeated Matt Taven for the ROH World Title at Death Before Dishonor last night – posted the following video, saying he is now an independent performer:
