Cody Rhodes Fires Shots At NXT Star

Cody Rhodes has recently fired shots at an NXT star, claiming that they’ve been trying to get employed by AEW.

Rhodes has had an interesting back-and-forth with a certain NXT star recently. On the AEW Revolution media call, Rhodes was asked about his experience with celebrities in the ring.

Before answering, his attention was drawn to an interaction between Miro and Pat McAfee, where McAfee had gloated about being considered a wrestler.

Poking fun at McAfee, Rhodes noted that the interaction felt bizarre, claiming that McAfee had been trying to get employed by AEW “every other day”.

Here is the quote:

“I didn’t see this particular comment, especially from Pat, which is super bizarre because I’m pretty sure Pat is trying to get a job at AEW like every other day, but that’s another conversation.”

McAfee denied this claim with a savage response, claiming that he’s considered retirement more than an AEW role on the Pat McAfee Show:

“Cody Rhodes just said I’ve been trying to get employed by AEW or whatever every other day. I’d like that to be known that is not true. I’ve actually contemplated retirement more than I’ve contemplated going to AEW. I have been in a spat with Miro, and we flipped the script on him, and Shaq. I have to watch that match tonight. Aside from that, I am not (reaching out to AEW). I would like that to be clear.”

In December 2020, Triple H confirmed that McAfee had signed a deal with WWE, but was also really busy elsewhere. It looks like he will take some time out of his busy schedule to watch AEW Dynamite tonight to watch Rhodes and Red Velvet battle Shaq and Jade Cargill.

McAfee has had two matches in NXT to date. The first was a loss to Adam Cole at TakeOver 31, and the second was the WarGames match that saw him, Danny Burch, Oney Lorcan and Pete Dunne lose to the Undisputed ERA.
