WWE Champion Cody Rhodes has opened up on John Cena’s heel turn at the Elimination Chamber premium live event.
John Cena turned heel for the first time in 20 years at the end of the WWE Elimination Chamber event in Toronto last month, where he sold his soul to The Rock, with Cena, Rock and Travis Scott laying waste to Cody to end the show.
Ahead of their clash at WrestleMania, Cody Rhodes spoke to First Take, where he discussed Cena’s turn on him at the Elimination Chamber.
When asked about how shocked he was by the turn, Cody said:
“I think I was as surprised as the rest of the audience, because that’s something that we never expected in the sports entertainment, pro wrestling, realm. No matter how you look at it, entertainment, sport, that suspension of disbelief, but still that idea that John would be bad, would be a heel, just an absurd thought.
“Then to follow up on the European tour that WWE did, to hear how he genuinely feels about what he refers to as a toxic relationship with WWE fans. Not the way a long time wrestling fan, wrestler, all of us, not the way we’d want to see John Cena go out.”
Cody also spoke about Travis Scott’s attack on him during the turn, noting that he wants to give him a receipt at WrestleMania, which you can see here.
