The AEW Full Gear match with Cody Rhodes and Pac teaming up against Malakai Black and Andrade El Idolo was reportedly not the original plan.
Rhodes and Black have of course been having issues for months, but it was only recently that Black aligned with Andrade, who beat Rhodes on Dynamite last week.
Andrade has also been embroiled with the Lucha Brothers, which by extension means he has an issue with Pac because Pac and the Lucha Brothers make up the Death Triangle.
After Black and Andrade attacked Pac last night and Cody Rhodes made the save, a tag team match was announced for Full Gear this Saturday, but apparently that wasn’t the initial idea.
Speaking on today’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said:
“This was not originally on the card. Originally I think they were gonnna do a four-way with those four, and then Tony Khan decided to make it into a tag team program.”

This will be both Black and Andrade’s first pay-per-view match in AEW. Andrade had been set to face Pac at All Out but that ended up being pulled from the show.
This of course isn’t the only change in plans for Saturday, because Kenny Omega vs Adam Page was originally planned for All Out, as well as Bryan Danielson’s opponent being changed from Jon Moxley to Miro.
