Cody Rhodes Reveals Who He Nearly Hired As His Assistant In AEW

AEW Executive Vice President and two-time TNT Champion Cody Rhodes has revealed on the Unrestricted podcast who he wanted to hire as his assistant.

Technically, QT Marshall was brought in as Rhodes’ assistant, but as Rhodes joked throughout the conversation, it hasn’t really panned out that way.

He said:

“The saga of QT is really uncomfortable for me at this point. Well, I’m really proud of him. He’s basically Tony [Khan]’s quarterback coach at this point. Like I’m really proud of him. But, brother, you were hired to be my assistant, and what the – I don’t have an assistant. And now, people come in, and they come to my room, *knocks on door*, ‘come in!’, Open the door, ‘is QT in here?’ ‘No he’s not’, ‘oh, never mind’. What the – I asked CD [Christopher Daniels] – what can QT do that I cannot answer?

“He has been a wonderful addition to the crew. I think all the EVPs have brought people on board and we secretly look at others’ like ‘my guy’s doing better than your guy’. And that’s a good competition, because you can’t have blind spots. If you’re bringing somebody in they better deliver.”

Cody Rhodes went on to say that he wanted to hire Veda Scott to be his assistant, but decided against it, adding:

“I wanted to get Veda Scott, and I never even mentioned to her, and here’s why. It would just be QT 2.0. Because QT envisions himself as The Rock – in his mind he is The Rock. He has big aspirations. I think anyone who’s in the entertainment business, like Veda’s in as well, she has aspirations. I need someone with no aspirations. I need someone who’s really non-aspirational. Really I need someone – legal counsel Megha [Parekh] told me I should have someone who has no interest in wrestling.”
