He may have his own main event match, but Cody Rhodes is looking forward to Seth Rollins Vs. GUNTHER at WWE WrestleMania 42.

Cody Rhodes main events night one of WrestleMania 42, defending the Undisputed WWE Championship against Randy Orton on April 18.

Before that, however, Seth Rollins faces GUNTHER, with Rhodes saying that’s the match he’s looking forward to on a recent Get Up ESPN appearance, stating:

“There’s always a little bit of that split between sports entertainment and wrestling – the sports and the entertainment – and the one that’s old school sports style that I really like, good old-fashioned wrestling: GUNTHER vs. Seth Rollins. I’m all about that. That’s a wrestler’s wrestling match.”

GUNTHER: The Wrestler’s Wrestler

In the sheer variety of the wrestling world, whether it’s considered sports entertainment or not, there are few who are quite like GUNTHER.

An old-school throwback, GUNTHER’s rise in WWE has seen him hold multiple championships through a renowned heavy-hitting style that has few of the flashy moments of his peers and contemporaries.

Even when it comes to speaking on the mic, GUNTHER has shown that his way with words is as effective as his work in the ring. He doesn’t labor a point through lengthy promos, but keeps it simple, effective and striking, with humor occasionally playing into his serious demeanor.

A belief in “the mat is sacred”, GUNTHER has proven, time and again, to be a breath of fresh air for a whole generation of WWE fans who may have grown weary of the theatrics that are often on show. There are no doubt going to be stars of tomorrow that could very well follow in his footsteps.

By contrast, Seth Rollins has proven to be a master of the very theatrics that GUNTHER avoids. A master of character and more than capable of showstealing showcases in the ring, this could be a defining moment in the career of a star who won the Crown Jewel Championship in October of last year, only to fall foul of his now-former Vision teammates days later as a storyline reason to write him off television due to a real-life injury.

In Rollins’ absence, GUNTHER has retired John Cena and AJ Styles, having brought Goldberg’s career to an end in July of last year. With that sort of record, Rollins has quite the hill to climb for his return match at WrestleMania 42.
