Dan Lambert has now claimed that Cody Rhodes was playing the politics game with Tony Khan while he was with AEW.
Rhodes was one of the stars who helped launch AEW. The American Nightmare, Kenny Omega, Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson all served as Executive Vice Presidents for the company, under AEW President Tony Khan.
Cody served as an EVP and his wife Brandi Rhodes acted as the Chief Brand Officer up until their AEW departures in February 2022.
Speaking on WrestleBinge by Sportskeeda, Dan Lambert stated that he didn’t like Cody or Brandi while he was with AEW:
“He played the politics game better than anybody in history and sucked up to Tony Khan-man and got his way all the time. What the hell is a Chief Brand Officer? What does that even mean other than to feed your ego?”
Lambert did praise Rhodes’ passion for the business, calling him a student of the game, and revealing that he’d always see Rhodes watching ‘old-school wrestling, taking notes’ whenever he’d pass the locker room.
Rhodes returned to WWE in April 2022, making his comeback at WrestleMania 38 as Seth Rollins’ mystery opponent.
On January 28, the American Nightmare won the 2023 Royal Rumble match, last eliminating GUNTHER to punch his ticket for WrestleMania 39.
Cody Rhodes discussed his Royal Rumble win on the following episode of WWE Raw, which you can read more about right here.
