One stipulation that has not gone in Cody’s favour has been his choice to not challenge for the AEW World Championship. This was a self-imposed stipulation, however, now fans are thinking. What if he uses the name Cody Rhodes?
Under a different name he could surely challenge for the title, right? Well, in short, no. During today’s media call, Rhodes revealed he will not use a loophole. He will not challenge as Cody Rhodes, nor as the Midnight Rider. Here is the quote, courtesy of Fightful:
“I’m not gonna challenge for it under a different name, I’m not gonna be the Midnight Rider, we’re not doing that stuff. I gave you my word, I do not want fans to think nepotism is involved or try and put an asterisk on my career because I’m in management. I will never challenge for the World Championship.”
Since losing his sole AEW World Championship match to Chris Jericho last year, Rhodes has found his place as TNT Champion. The brief reign of Brodie Lee aside, the TNT Championship has been Rhodes’ title.
Cody only got his last name back this week after WWE dropped the trademark battle with him.
