An update has emerged on plans for Cody Rhodes’ character, following the American Nightmare losing the WWE Championship.
Cody Rhodes is no longer WWE Champion, with Drew McIntyre winning the gold in a Three Stages of Hell match on the January 9 SmackDown episode, following Jacob Fatu attacking both competitors.
While Drew McIntyre had been trying to pull Cody Rhodes to the dark side throughout their rivalry, it was after the bout when Rhodes attacked Fatu which fuelled speculation about a potential heel turn.
A new detail has now emerged on what’s next for Cody Rhodes, with Cory Hays of Bodyslam.net indicating that Rhodes is planned to have a “character shift” rather than a full-blown heel turn.
When a Twitter user asked Hays how close we are to Cody Rhodes turning heel, he responded:
Not a turn but a character shift
This interaction happened in the comments section of a post highlighting that Hays had previously reported that Jacob Fatu was part of the pitch to have McIntyre win the title.
