Complexion Of WWE Elimination Chamber Changes On SmackDown

There were several happenings on SmackDown Live that changed the complexion of Sunday’s upcoming Elimination Chamber pay-per-view.

Firstly, Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville lost a three-way women’s tag bout to Carmella & Naomi and The IIconics. That means they will enter the ring first alongside Sasha Banks and Bayley in the Elimination Chamber match to crown the first ever women’s tag champions.

It was also confirmed that Kofi Kingston would replace Mustafa Ali in the Chamber bout, with Ali out of the match having suffered a concussion at Sunday’s house show. There was no angle to explain his absence from the match, just a promo cut in the snow in which he said he was unable to compete.

Kofi then lasted over an hour in a cracking gauntlet match contested between the six members of the WWE Championship Chamber bout on Sunday. First he defeated Daniel Bryan in a lengthy outing before toppling Jeff Hardy and Samoa Joe. He finally succumbed to an AJ Styles calf crusher.

With only seconds remaining on the clock before SmackDown went off the air, Randy Orton appeared and drilled AJ with an RKO out of nowhere and immediately scored the pin to confirm he would enter the Chamber last.

Five seconds work and he gets that advantage whereas Kofi wrestled for an hour for nothing. Gauntlet matches are fairly silly when you think about it, aren’t they?
