Conflicting Reports On Potential AEW To WWE Defections WWE/AEW

A rumor killer has potentially emerged on a report that AEW stars wanting to make the jump to WWE have been told to wait until 2024.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer indicated that several AEW stars were interesting in joining WWE, noting:

Previously, there were talents that were interested in coming from AEW to WWE that were making main roster salaries that were told by friends in AEW to stay put until 2024 when the company would be able to budget far more for talent.

AEW would potentially have a larger budget for talent in 2024 if they come to terms on a bigger TV deal once their current agreement expires.

WrestleVotes has since stated that a WWE source called this ‘absurd’, believing that from WWE’s perspective, if they were interested in an available talent, it would be ‘business as usual’.

WrestleVotes tweeted:

‘Asked a source about report circulating regarding AEW stars being advised to wait for 2024 if they are thinking of making the jump to WWE… Source said that’s “absurd” & “if WWE is interested in a talent that is available, regardless of promotion, WWE will do business as usual”’

AEW President Tony Khan has admitted that he’s anticipating more ‘free-agent movement’ both ways when more contracts expire.
