Controversial Wrestling Figure Talks Turning Down AEW Job Offer

Former WWE manager and controversial wrestling figure Jim Cornette has been on the record in the past to claim that AEW offered him a role in the promotion before the launch of Dynamite in October last year.

On the most recent episode of his Drive-Thru podcast, the former NWA commentator has opened up about his first telephone meeting with AEW President Tony Khan, noting that it was two years ago:

“The first time I ever spoke to him on the phone? I said ‘Tony [Khan], I’m the only one it’ll tell you the truth because I don’t want a job. That was two years ago, I was 57, now I’m 59. That’s almost 60.”

Jim Cornette then explained that he wouldn’t be interested in flying all over the country to attend AEW shows, likely explaining why he made the call to turn down the promotion’s reported job offer:

“I was not going to be getting on airplanes and flying around” Cornette continued. “Or driving around to a wrestling promotion’s events that were being held all over the country. That’s regardless who it was, I’m f*cking not interested in that.”

Cornette then noted that he wouldn’t have been comfortable just being paid to work from home either. However, he did jokingly say that he’d “fire half the f*cking roster” if employed by AEW:

“Am I going to stay home and write my thoughts down via email? Or phone them in and take a check for it? Well, if it was a goddamn real promotion Pinocchio? Absolutely, if there was a way I could help. You couldn’t do anything with this show, even if you were on the f*cking ground there. Unless the first thing was fire half the f*cking roster and start over.”
