Backstage Update On Corey Graves WWE Future Amid TV Absence WWE

UPDATE: A major update has emerged on Corey Graves’ return to WWE return plans, click here for full details.

Following his move from WWE SmackDown to NXT at New Year’s Evil (January 7), Corey Graves vented his frustrations regarding his position on social media and hasn’t been seen since.

Graves took to Twitter on January 13, 2025, revealing he had seemingly been told he was “not famous enough” to hold a commentary position on either WWE Raw or SmackDown.

While he would go on to say he had “a lot to say” ahead of the January 14 episode of WWE NXT, he ended up not appearing on that show.

PWInsider Elite (via Cultaholic) has confirmed that, at the time of writing, there are no plans for Graves to be behind the commentary table for the January 21 episode of NXT.

Graves has since deleted his tweets relating to the his frustrations, though hasn’t been seen on WWE programming since.

Dave Meltzer would go on to state that there was a feeling in WWE that he was “trying to get fired” with further details on Graves’ status being revealed during a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio.

Having weighed up the possibility of Graves being suspended or fired by WWE, Meltzer has now stated:

“He has not been fired, I get no impression that he’s going to be fired.

“He’s not looking to leave even though I know there were people in the company who thought he was. When he’ll be used, I don’t know.”

Meltzer has also revealed that WWE “was not happy” with how the Graves comments “turned out and the way it was covered.”

Former WWE commentator Jonathan Coachman took issue with Graves’ initial comments, pointing out that many top commentary members had moved roles multiple times.

It has recently been reported that Graves has two years left on his current WWE contract.
