Vince McMahon never considered cancelling Crown Jewel, despite serious pressure from politicians and fans, reports the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
Hosting an event in Saudi Arabia, a country that does not allow women to compete, was always going to be a bit controversial, but ever since the murder of New York Times journalist Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, holding the show in the country has felt even more sticky.
For some time, it felt as though WWE were moments away from cancelling the show, but according to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, cancelling the show was never on the table.
Vince did consider pushing the show back in an attempt to reduce some of the heat on the show, but ever since it was announced that Hulk Hogan will host the show, it’s pretty clear that Vince doesn’t care.
It was reported that Vince was under the impression that the fate of the show was out of his hands, but was then told the decision was in fact all up to him.
In about 10 hours, it’s likely this show will never mentioned again. Good.
