During last night’s episode of WWE Raw, there were several times that references were made to talents being released by the company.
One of those was by Liv Morgan, who said that Becky Lynch’s contract is why her friends (Sarah Logan and Ruby Soho) were released, and there was another later on by Edge who said The Miz uses WWE for notoriety so he can appear on dance competitions and leave his partners (John Morrison) “high and dry” to get fired.
A lot of fans took issue with this, especially considering those lines more than likely came from writers rather than Morgan and Edge themselves, and apparently fans weren’t the only ones not particularly happy about it.
During Fightful’s review of last night’s show, Sean Ross Sapp said:
“It happened several times during this show, and I had former WWE wrestlers, former WWE producers, and a current WWE wrestler, that were all telling me how bad a taste they thought that was.”

Both of those segments, especially Edge and Miz, seemed to be using more close-to-home references (like the releases) than we’re used to seeing from WWE promos, which some people have suggested was in response to the well-received CM Punk/MJF promo on AEW Dynamite last week.
The fact that Edge also referenced that very Punk/MJF segment would only add to that speculation, but either way, using releases in these situations, when it’s pretty much known that those lines are coming from the company’s own writers, is questionable at best.
