A potential reason for the WWE release of Dakota Kai this past week has emerged, as she was among the names let go by the company.
Kai was one of the most surprising names involved in the releases, as she’d been prominently featured on Raw in recent months.
In an update, Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live mentioned that WWE’s decision to end Damage CTRL as a group may have played into the decision.
He said:
“I don’t know what the story is there other than – and I don’t know if this is ‘official’ – but I was kind of told unofficially that Damage CTRL’s done. The group is done.
“And that probably means that maybe Asuka and Kairi might come back as a tag team, and IYO’s obviously a big singles star, and maybe they just figured that Dakota, she’s not gonna be at the level of an IYO, doesn’t have a partner, we don’t do a six-woman division, so she got cut. But that one is surprising.”
This marks Kai’s second WWE release, as she was initially released in April 2022 before quickly returning the following July for SummerSlam and the formation of the original Damage CTRL.
