Bad Bunny impressed WWE fans around the world back at WrestleMania, when he put in a great performance as he and Damian Priest were victorious over The Miz and John Morrison.
Priest recently spoke to the Battleground podcast about the angle and subsequent match, where he recalls originally being told that his role in the angle had been scrapped. Priest said:
“So I don’t know whose idea initially it was to pair us up. I do know that initially, we were supposed to be paired and he came to the Performance Center. I met him there like the week before the Royal Rumble and we hit it off immediately. We grew up in the same town in Puerto Rico, you know, just our mindset of how we handle ourselves, where people you know, told us (that in order) to make it we have to change the way we speak and change the way we dress and conform to whatever and we just never agreed with that. We always (believed) to succeed is to make it on your terms, not on somebody else’s. We had that in common and then obviously being super fans of this business. So we became like instant friends. (Then), the day before the Royal Rumble, we got scrapped, like I wasn’t supposed to be a part of it.”
Priest continued, recollecting a conversation Triple H had with Bunny where he specifically requested to work with Priest. He said:
“Then come (time for) the Royal Rumble. It was back on. Triple H (spoke to him about the supposed switch). He’s like, ‘Hey, I don’t know why they told me that wasn’t that was gonna change. But no, we’re still gonna go with this. Because this is the way it should be. This is more realistic. Like, it’s an actual thing that you guys make sense.’ Actually, it was also Bad Bunny where they asked him, they told him like, ‘Hey, we’re gonna switch to this,’ and he actually spoke up and said, No, I want to work with Priest. That’s actually really cool because if he would have said, ‘Okay, yeah, I’d rather work with somebody else,’ they would have given whatever he wanted. But he specifically said he wanted me to work with him.”
Damian Priest is currently set to collide with Sheamus for the United States Championship after winning a contender’s match on this week’s Raw show.
