Danhausen Addresses Whether He’s Bigger Than WWE, Believes He Has ‘The Backing Of The Machine’

Danhausen has commented on whether he’s bigger than WWE with all the popularity he’s gained as of late.

Danhausen has become a big name not only in pro-wrestling but also in sports as a whole due to his association with the New York Knicks and the tie-ins with the Knicks’ NBA Championship win.

Appearing on the Stephen A Smith Show today, Danhausen was asked if he believes his popularity beyond WWE makes him a brand in his own right and thus bigger than WWE.

He replied:

“I think that’s why Danhausen’s at the WWE. Because Danhausen has made Danhausen a thing prior to that, and then he came there, and now he has the backing of the biggest company of the world of wrestling and entertainment.

“And then that leads to ESPN asking for Danhausen and Stephen A Smith asking for Danhausen to be on his wonderful TV show and all that.

“So I think you just have the vehicle behind you, and then you can just ascend even more, you have the backing of the machine.”

Has Danhausen Ever Regretted A Curse?

Elsewhere in the interview, Danhausen was asked if he’d ever cursed anyone in WWE that he regretted.

He replied that he hasn’t yet, but did clarify why he “threatened” John Cena at WrestleMania 42, saying:

“So far, no. But I did threaten John Cena at WrestleMania, but it was a joke – I was not actually threatening him, I wanted to trick him a little bit just to rile him up, and then I cursed The Miz again and Kit Wilson.

“Listen, I wanted to be on the biggest stage, with the biggest superstar, and that was John Cena. And I just had to show him I was a little bit up at his level and kinda step to him for a quick second and just let him know I’m business.

“But then I let him know I was a huge fan of his.”

How Danhausen Created His Character

Danhausen also spoke in the interview about how he came up with the Danhausen character and how it’s evolved over the past 13 years.

He explained:

“I wanted to have a good time while making human money and getting to travel around the world, and getting on television and taking over.

“So slowly, you put those pieces together, piece by piece, year by year, state by state, country by country, and then it all slowly just melts into Danhausen.

“Take a little bit of these horror movies, I like The Simpsons and comedies and Conan O’Briens and things like that.

“And I go, ‘I’ll take a little bit of this, and a little bit of that, and will melt it all together in my brain,’ and then out comes Danhausen.”
