Daniel Bryan Discusses His WWE Backstage Role

Daniel Bryan has opened up about his WWE position backstage, revealing how much creative control he actually has.

With Bryan claiming that he’s close to the end of his wrestling career, many have praised the former WWE Champion for putting certain stars over. It turns out that Bryan doesn’t actually have as much power backstage as many fans think he does.

Speaking with TalkSPORT, Bryan stated that he doesn’t actually have much of a say in SmackDown stories. While he is eager to offer suggestions, the final decisions are not made by him.

Here is the full quote:

“It’s interesting because, one, I don’t have that big of a say (laughs). Sometimes something really great will happen on SmackDown and somebody will say ‘oh, that’s Daniel Bryan!’ Like, that’s not me!

“We have incredible superstars. Cesaro is a no-brainer. When you say ‘Daniel Bryan helped Cesaro’ – no. All I did was ‘hey this guy is really good. We should put him on TV and use him!’ (laughs).

“Apollo Crews, I don’t have anything to do with Apollo Crews stuff. He’s just great.”

Discussing the joy of being a mentor to up-and-coming stars, Bryan said:

“So yeah, there is something to that, the idea of helping people and from a human perspective we all want that. For a long time, when you’re young you’re like ‘I want to achieve this, I want to achieve this!’ but as you get older it’s ‘I want to help here, I want to help here’ and it’s just a different perspective.”

Bryan was recently added to the Universal Championship match at WrestleMania 37. In the conclusion of the latest episode of SmackDown, Edge attacked Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan with a chair, cementing his heel turn.

Also on SmackDown, Logan Paul was announced for next week’s show. A recent report has noted that the viral star could make an appearance at WrestleMania 37.
