Daniel Bryan Suggests WWE Needs A New Developmental Territory

WWE star Daniel Bryan has questioned whether WWE actually has a developmental territory after suggesting NXT isn’t one anymore.

Having moved to the USA Network with its own two-hour show in 2019, now more than ever, NXT has become a third brand alongside Raw and SmackDown.

Speaking with Lucha Libre Online, Daniel Bryan said:

“I definitely don’t think NXT is considered a developmental territory anymore, which leaves the question; do we have a developmental territory? We need one to develop talent. If NXT is not our development, which it isn’t, those guys are awesome. I do consider NXT a third brand. That begs the question, where are we going to develop our talent if it’s not NXT? The other interesting thing is you can have a great career and never come to the main roster. If you’re Johnny Gargano or Tommaso Ciampa and you want to stay in NXT and be Mr. NXT, you can do that. The benefits of coming to the main roster are exposure worldwide, you get paid better. So, there are positives, but one of the cool things about NXT is, it’s different from Raw and SmackDown. That’s why they have their own unique fanbase. Sometimes the NXT fans may not be a fan of Raw or SmackDown. That diversity adds a lot to the WWE brand.”

There had recently been rumours that WWE was looking at introducing a second-tier NXT behind its main show, but nothing concrete has come to light about that yet.
