There were many theories and much speculation following last week’s SmackDown. All of them were regarding the future of Daniel Bryan as he lost to Roman Reigns with his career on the line.
Many fans theorized that Bryan could be joining Raw, NXT, or even NXT UK following the loss. He was hit with a conchairto after the match, meaning he was written off television beyond just the stipulation.
However, Fightful Select (subscription required) has reported that Bryan’s contract with WWE has legitimately expired. The report states that their high level sources inside and outside of WWE told them they had heard Bryan’s deal was expiring. It was also noted that Bryan had been tight-lipped about the situation.
The report also says that this does not mean Bryan is leaving WWE. He could have re-signed since and could work for WWE without a contract.
Fightful also reports that Daniel Bryan has been vocal about doing “unconventional work” with and for WWE.
Bryan had been moved to the Alumni section of WWE.com after losing the match. However, this has been used as part of storylines in the past.
We will continue to provide additional details as more information becomes available.
