Darby Allin Mount Everest Update Following Recent AEW Injuries

Darby Allin Mount Everest Update Following Recent AEW Injuries AEW

Following his recent injuries, former AEW World Tag Team Champion Darby Allin has provided an update on his Mount Everest quest.

At AEW Big Business, Jay White defeated Darby Allin. Post match, White and The Gunns of Bullet Club Gold jumped Allin and The Acclaimed.

The attack ended with White breaking Darby’s foot using Sting’s signature bat and a steel chair. This injury caused Allin to postpone his Mount Everest trip for later this year. Allin suffered another setback when he was hit by a New York City bus on April 26, but he only walked away with a broken nose from the accident.

Speaking on the Daly Migs Show, Darby Allin was asked about his condition following his recent injuries. He answered:

“I’m alive. It’s been a crazy few months, for sure, with Mount Everest having to be postponed til next year.”

“Once I broke my foot, everybody said, maybe this is a sign that you shouldn’t climb Mount Everest.’ The first thing I said, maybe it’s a sign I should climb it next year.’”

“They’re like, stop, slow down. Then I got hit by a bus, and it’s, ‘Maybe it’s definitely a sign you shouldn’t climb Mount Everest.’”

“I was like, maybe it’s a sign I should climb it next year. I still am gonna climb Mount Everest. You can’t stop me,”

When asked about his desire to climb the mountain, Darby replied:

“It just popped into my head one night, and I was like, man, I really want to do that. It’s something to push my body to the absolute limits.”

“Everybody sees what I do physically in AEW, but I thought, man, what’s something a pro wrestler has never done before? So I started thinking, Mount Everest. That sounds insane.”

“So I just instantly [started] jumping on the phone with a bunch of climbing companies, and they’re like, you need experience. You can’t just go to climb Mount Everest. I was like okay.”

“So I’ll go through any training program you have, and I completed all the training programs.”

“They told me, ‘We have never seen someone succeed in mountain climbing as fast as you have.’ They’re like, ‘You’re gonna do amazing on Mount Everest.’ So I was all excited.”

On how his thinking changed following his foot injury, Allin said:

“I was like, yeah, I’m gonna kick Mount Everest’s ass. This is gonna be awesome. Then two weeks before I was supposed to fly out, I broke my foot wrestling at the show.”

“I broke my foot in the first minute of the match and I wrestled an extra 13 minutes on the broken foot. It was so hard, it was miserable.”

“Then I got three metal plates put in my foot, so I’m recovering from that. But I fully plan on climbing Mount Everest again next year.”

“I’m not taking this as a sign to stay away from the mountain. I’m taking it as a sign to kick ass next year. So I’m ready to rock,”

On why he wanted to first climb Mount Everest, Darby said:

“It’s crazy. I was like, I want to climb this, but now I really want to climb it.”

“When it was ripped away from me, knowing how good training was going and everybody’s saying, ‘You’re gonna be amazing, this is awesome.’”

“My guide, who was gonna climb with me, climbed Everest 22 times, and he told me, ‘You’re gonna kick this mountain’s ass.’ I was like, ‘Yeah.’ [Laughs]”

“Then to have it ripped away, I’m like, ‘No,’ [laughs] but like I said, I have to wait until next April because you can only climb it two months out of the year.”

“So I’ll wait, but I’ll be ready to rock, and hopefully, I stay in one piece in a year, I don’t know. People say maybe you gotta put this kid in a bubble for a year and [keep] him in one piece,”
