Darby Allin has always gotten comparisons to Sting. The look, the grungy attitude, it is reminiscent of Sting’s Crow character. However, with speculation of Sting’s involvement in AEW, the comparisons have ramped up of late.
Now, Allin has commented on them. While speaking to TV Insider, Allin was asked about the comparisons between himself in Sting. Essentially, Allin said he didn’t draw inspiration from Sting but rather has just always been a fan of the goth aesthetic. Here is the quote:
“My face paint just comes from my real life. That’s not really a character thing I try to rip off of anybody. I’ve always just liked the dark stuff. I’ve always been a fan of the gothic aesthetic. Just weird stuff. I’m flattered by [the comparison], it’s cool, but it’s definitely not what I’m thinking about while I’m doing it.”
Darby Allin recently defeated Cody Rhodes to become the TNT Champion at Full Gear. It marked the first time in four tries that Allin was able to successfully defeat Rhodes since his arrival in AEW.
As of this writing, Sting is still a free agent.
