A top AEW star says he isn’t interested in championships.
At AEW Double Or Nothing, MJF defeated Sammy Guevara, “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry and Darby Allin in a four-way match to retain the AEW World Championship.
The finish saw MJF pin Darby with a headlock takeover, continuing the storyline thread from their previous singles bout at Full Gear 2021.
Despite coming up short for the top prize in All Elite Wrestling, Allin is a former two-time TNT Champion and has an undefeated record with Sting in tag team competition. The duo with the legend should be qualified for the AEW World Tag Team Championships.
In a new interview with Fightful, Darby Allin discussed his lack of interest in championship gold. He said:
“Well, you know the thing with Sting, man, he don’t want to go for championships. That’s never been a goal of his. He never wanted to fight for the championship. I can respect that.”
“He’s like, ‘Give somebody the opportunity to do it that it could elevate their career.’ He don’t need to get his career more elevated. Maybe he’ll change his mind. Maybe he’ll be like, ‘Yo, FTR. What’s up?’”
Sting and Darby last teamed together in a trios match with Orange Cassidy defeating The Butcher, The Blade and Kip Sabian on the March 22 episode of AEW Dynamite.
Sting recently returned on the May 31 edition of Dynamite to make the save for Allin and Cassidy from Mogul Embassy after the babyfaces’ win over Gates of Agony.
