AEW’s Darby Allin Responds To Those Who Think Mount Everest Climb Was ‘Irresponsible’ AEW

AEW’s Darby Allin has responded to those who view his successful climb of Mount Everest as “irresponsible”.

On May 18, 2025 Darby Allin successfully made it to the summit of Mount Everest, a feat that only a small percentage of people have managed to achieve.

As a result of the climb and preparing for it, Allin took a leave of absence from AEW TV for the first half of 2025, returning to television during the main event of AEW All In Texas on Saturday, July 12.

Having since been back on AEW programming, taking all the risks that fans expect of him inside a wrestling ring, Allin has now hit back at those who deemed his Everest climb as “irresponsible”, given his position in AEW:

Appearing on The Ariel Helwani Show, Allin said:

“People always told me you can never really be the face of AEW because you’re too psychotic or a liability, ‘you’re just gonna get yourself killed on Mount Everest’. They think climbing Mount Everest was irresponsible of me. But I think the exact opposite.

“I’m willing to go places for this company that nobody is f**king willing to go. I will go to the summit of Mount Everest with the AEW flag and wave it from the top of the world because I’m so passionate about what this place gives me.

“Who’s gonna argue about that as the spokesperson for a company? So anyone who says it’s stupid, because I’m not doing Mount Everest for a publicity stunt I was literally on a self journey.”

Allin was then asked how long he had been planning to attempt the climb:

“About two-and-a-half years ago. I felt like this wrestling world man, I see people who never want to get out of the spotlight. They’re just clinging for that attention, ‘pay attention to me’ and they’re just desperate it scares them what life is going to be like when the world forgets about them.

“I never wanted to be that guy and there’s nothing more humbling and grounding than risking your life on Mount Everest so it literally made me so centred and just appreciate now.

“That’s the thing you’ve got so many things going on in life, just focus on now and be grateful to just be here. I really wanted to see who I was going to become on the other side of that mountain.”

Darby will compete against long-time rival Jon Moxley in an I Quit Match at this Saturday’s AEW WrestleDream 2025 pay-per-view in St. Louis, MO.
