Dave Meltzer accuses WWE of ‘promotional malpractice’ over Daniel Bryan

Daniel Bryan’s return to in-ring competition in WWE earlier this year has been seen as a huge disappointment by many, including Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, who voiced his displeasure on the way he has been treated thus far.

On February 8, 2016, Daniel Bryan emotionally retired from in-ring competition. However, when the former WWE World Heavyweight champion announced his comeback earlier this year, fans eagerly looked forward to him facing the likes of AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura, and other dream opponents that the ‘American Dragon’ could take on. However, Meltzer has raised concerns about his booking:

“God, was Daniel Bryan just a guy on that show [Smackdown] cheerleading his wife [Brie Bella]? The whole Daniel Bryan booking since WrestleMania: that actually should go down as promotional malpractice. As over as he was when he first made the comeback to where he is now – he’s still popular and they’ll chant – but he’s just a guy. Even guys in the company bring it up. On the road, he’s more than just a guy; but, yeah, if you watch the TV, he’s just a guy on the roster and he should be so much more than that.” (Transcription Credit: Michael McClead, WrestleZone)

Ever since his return at WrestleMania 34, it could be argued that Bryan has been underutilised and because of that, his shine has been somewhat dimmed. Having said that, he’s still popular and it wouldn’t be too late to pull the trigger and make him one of the top guys in the company again, a position he earned during his prime run in 2013/14.
