Dave Meltzer Awards First 5 Star Rating Since Beginning Of The Pandemic

It has been many many months since a match topped five stars from Dave Meltzer. However, after all this time, one match has broken the threshold. It may not be a match you would expect, but the Best Friends vs. Santana and Ortiz Parking Lot Fight is the match that secured the honour.

Meltzer revealed the star ratings for this week’s shows in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. We recommend you go and read his full reviews of the matches to get a proper idea of his thoughts on them.

The match was the blowoff of the two teams’ feud. They had been fighting amongst each other for months as a result of Santana and Ortiz destroying Trent’s mom’s minivan. Naturally, this led to a Parking Lot Brawl, one that people have called the best ever.

Jim Ross called the match the best Street Fight he has ever called and that covers a lot of ground. Mick Foley also chimed in with praise of the match online.

In the end, the Best Friends got the win over their rivals with a bit of help from Orange Cassidy. After the match, they drove off as Trent’s mom flipped Santana and Ortiz the bird.

This is also the first five-star match in AEW Dynamite history.
