Dave Meltzer Releases Star Ratings For NXT Great American Bash & AEW Fyter Fest

Last week, Dave Meltzer seem to have upset a few people when he released his star ratings for the first night of both NXT Great American Bash and AEW Fyter Fest.

The main issue many people seemed to have was his rating for Jake Hager vs. Cody Rhodes, a match many people didn’t seem to enjoy, which he gave 4 stars to. By comparison, the well-received Io Shirai vs. Sasha Banks NXT match secured just 3.75 stars.

With the release of the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer has also released his star ratings for the matches on this week’s AEW and NXT shows, and they make for some rather interesting reading.

For NXT Great American Bash, here’s what Meltzer rated the matches:

• Candice Le Rae def. Mia Yim (**1/4)
• Bronson Reed def. Tony Nese (*3/4)
• Johnny Gargano def. Isaiah “Swerve” Scott (***1/2)
• Santos Escobar, Joaquin Wilde & Raul Mendoza def. Drake Maverick & Breezango (**1/4)
• Mercedes Martinez def. Santana Garrett (*)
• Keith Lee def. Adam Cole (****1/4).

For comparison, Dave Meltzer seemed to enjoy the matches on AEW’s show much more, giving them the following ratings:

• Kenny Omega & Hangman Page def. Private Party (****)
• Lance Archer def. Joey Janela (***3/4)
• Lucha Bros & The Butcher & The Blade def. FTR & The Young Bucks (****3/4)
• Nyla Rose def. Kenzie Paige & KiLynn King  (*)
• Dark Order & Colt Cabana def. SCU (***)
• Chris Jericho def. Orange Cassidy (****1/4).
