The news that long-time WWE producer Dean Malenko was leaving following a 19-year stint with the promotion came as a shock to most, but apparently not to Starrcast II promoter Conrad Thompson.
According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, Thompson already had graphics made and the deal lined up to bring in Malenko long before the news of his WWE release went public.
Sapp says that Malenko’s fellow ex-WWE producer and Four Horsemen teammate Arn Anderson, who is also part of the Starrcast II event, connected him with Thompson.
Malenko was announced for Starrcast the day after his WWE release was confirmed.
