Def Rebel WWE Update After New Music Job Listing

Def Rebel WWE Update After New Music Job Listing WWE

There has been an update on def rebel’s WWE status following a recent job listing by the company for a new Director of Music Strategy.

WWE’s current theme music producers, def rebel, have long been the subject of a lot of criticism in recent years, and a new update today had many questioning their future in the company.

On October 22, WWE posted a new job listing, in which the company was looking for a ‘Director of Music Strategy and Operations’.

The listing consists of more administrative roles and the growth of the music and streamlining the department, as well as coordinating live events and performances, and was not specifically for a composer role like the one previously held by Jim Johnson.

Per Fightful Select (subscription required), several WWE talents currently using def rebel theme songs voiced frustration across the board with their methods and the themes that have been produced, including several expressing negativity about their current theme music.

When speaking to talent, Fightful notes that many were never told outright why their theme music changed from the CFO$ era, even though the question had been asked, with the talent also noting that they haven’t had direct contact with or met def rebel.

There has also been communications from those working in production to Fightful that had noted they would prefer a new method, with one source noting that they were hopeful for a more ‘motivated and personalized’ approach to theme music.

One talent joked that, at one point, all the members of Judgment Day, Damage CTRL and Seth Rollins had a very similar intro to their theme music over a several year period, though with the case of the Judgment Day it was Alter Bridge producing the song.

Sources that spoke to Fightful had not heard of any imminent plan to utilize more licensed music as theme songs as had been speculated recently, though a few wrestlers inquired about those rumours and were told that long-term clearnaces were issues in some cases.

Licensed music is still expected to be featured as WWE is looking to integrate more artists into their shows and PLEs.

We’ll keep you posted with any further updates.
