It has been claimed that Deonna Purrazzo pitched a gimmick similar to NXT’s Axiom while she was with WWE.
On Tuesday’s (July 19) edition of NXT, Axiom made his in-ring debut, defeating Dante Chen in singles action.
Axiom is the new ‘technical’ gimmick of former NXT UK Heritage Cup Champion A-Kid.
reacting to the new character’s entrance, Green noted that ‘Axiom’ was very similar to an idea Purrazzo has previously suggested, tweeting:
“I am dead. This is everything @DeonnaPurrazzo pitched!!!!”
Appearing to confirm Green’s claim, Purrazzo tweeted:
“It only took them 4 years to understand ?”
Following a number of appearances for the company, Purrazzo signed with WWE in 2018. She was under contract with WWE for two years before her release in April 2020.
Purrazzo, currently signed to IMPACT Wrestling, has since won IMPACT Knockouts, AAA Reina De Reinas and ROH Women’s gold. It was pointed out that early vignettes for Purrazzo in IMPACT featured equations, similar to Axiom’s current presentation.
Purrazzo notably lost her ROH Women’s Championship to interim title holder Mercedes Martinez on the May 4 edition of Dynamite. Martinez will defend the gold at this weekend’s Death Before Dishonor event.
Axiom’s victory marked his first on the US NXT brand since March. Stay up to date with WWE NXT win/loss records for 2022 using our tracker at this link.
