IMPACT Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo wants to face AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida with both titles on the line.
At IMPACT Rebellion, Kenny Omega and Rich Swann wrestled with both the IMPACT World and AEW World Championships up for grabs. Purrazzo has recently asked if the male stars can have a title vs title match, why not the women?
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Purrazzo, explained that she is trying to elevate women’s wrestling. Pointing out the benefits that both promotions’ women’s divisions would experience, Purrazzo stated that there wouldn’t truly be a losing side.
Noting that wrestling is no longer the boys club, Purrazzo believes that a major inter-promotional match could showcase female competitors like never before.
Here is the full quote:
“As an advocate for women’s wrestling, I want women to be part of (inter-promotional matches). Wrestling isn’t the boys club anymore. I want our Knockouts Championship to be contended for all over the world. I know that whoever is in charge of the AEW women’s division and Tony Khan want their championship to be held in the same contention.
“So, if we can have Kenny (Omega) vs. Rich (Swann), champion vs. champion, why can’t we have Deonna vs. Shida? Our division is continuously growing and is one of the best in the world. Their division, in the same light, is continuously growing and is becoming one of the best in the world. There is no lose-lose, no matter what the match is between Impact’s women’s division and AEW’s women’s division.”
Purrazzo hasn’t lost a singles match since Bound For Glory in October 2020. Hikaru Shida’s last one-on-one defeat came on the December 4, 2019 episode of AEW Dynamite.
Mickie James and Chelsea Green were recently featured in the promo for Slammiversary 2021. The Knockouts Champion expressed interest in recently released WWE stars coming to IMPACT. Purrazzo noted that James, Green, Peyton Royce and Billie Kay would be perfect for her women’s division.
Here is the full quote:
“Everyone that this happened to last year, myself included, has kind of found a new home and landed on their feet and been successful. So, I think this had to happen to the next round of people, and we set that template of it’s going to be OK, you will be successful and thrive wherever you land.
“Obviously, I want my best friend Chelsea Green to come back to Impact. Mickie James is a former Knockouts Champion. And then I also love Cassie (Peyton Royce) and Billie (Kay) as individuals and as a tag team. I think of those four we would benefit tremendously from and vice versa.”
At IMPACT Rebellion, Purrazzo defeated Tenille Dashwood to retain her title. Will Ospreay has now reacted to Kenny Omega’s IMPACT World Championship win from yesterday’s show.
