A departing WWE star has recalled recently being replaced by Alexa Bliss months before their departure from the company.
Former Raw and SmackDown Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss made her return to WWE television after two years away at the 2025 Royal Rumble premium live event, when she entered the Women’s Royal Rumble match at number 21.
Alexa’s entry into the Royal Rumble came about late after her and the company had reportedly hit an impasse with her contract, with Alexa re-signing with the company just a day before she returned in the Royal Rumble.
Following Alexa’s return, it was reported that Shotzi was initially set to take part in the Women’s Royal Rumble match, with her being replaced by Alexa following Alexa re-signing with the company.
Speaking to Daria Berenato (Sonya Deville) on Unwrapped, Shotzi confirmed that she was initially planned for the Royal Rumble match, saying:
“I heard mixed messages. A couple of producers said I was always in the Rumble. Then they told me last minute. I don’t know. I was very confused by it, but they didn’t relay anything to me until the day before. It was like 3 PM the day before Rumble and they were like, ‘Can you get on a flight in a couple of hours?’ I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I’m not ready for this.’ I packed my bags. I don’t even know what I put in the bags. Got to the airport in an hour and it led to nothing.”
Daria noted that Shotzi was part of the rehearsals for the match, and asked when she found out she wouldn’t be in the match.
Shotzi answered:
“The day of, I got told while I was in the makeup chair that I wasn’t in it.”
Shotzi then confirmed that Alexa was the one that replaced her in the match, saying that she apologised to her after the match.
She said:
“Honestly, if you’re going to take me out for anyone, at least make it be the biggest pop for the night. I have to say, Alexa had no idea someone was getting replaced. She had no idea any of that was going on. She felt so bad and she came up to me after and was like, ‘Oh my God, I’m so sorry. I didn’t even realize they were taking someone out to get me in.'”
Shotzi was part of the recent WWE departures on May 3, with her being informed that her contract with the company would not be renewed ahead of it’s expiration.
