Interesting Details On AEW Contracts, How CM Punk Departure May Be Affected AEW

Some interesting insight has been provided regarding AEW contracts, as well as how it may affect a potential CM Punk departure.

It’s well-known that the vast majority of WWE contracts have non-compete clauses baked into them – basically saying that if your contract is terminated before it expires, you won’t be able to wrestle elsewhere for 90 days if it’s a main roster contract, or 30 days if it’s an NXT contract.

A new report from Fightful Select has indicated that this is NOT the case for AEW contracts in general.

This is reportedly based on the AEW contracts Fightful has seen, as well as several talents they’ve spoken to about it.

AEW sources then went some way to explaining why – basically, AEW barely ever releases anyone other than in exceptional circumstances anyway, so they’d be pretty irrelevant.

However, non-compete clauses are something that can be negotiated on a “case-by-case basis” if there does happen to be a release.

For example, everyone Fightful spoke to believed that if CM Punk was to be released by the company, a non-compete would be negotiated so that he couldn’t go to WWE for whatever period of time.

You may remember a few months ago now there were actually reports of that process happening and there were disagreements in the negotiation of the non-compete clause, but there haven’t been any updates on those talks for a while so they seem to have died down.
