Details On ‘Hectic’ Process Of Choosing New Names For WWE Talent

Some details have emerged regarding how WWE talent gets their new ring names when they sign and debut for the company.

This has been a hot topic this past week, with the likes of Bron Breakker and Von Wagner making their debuts on NXT last Tuesday.

Speaking with Fightful Select, Alex Zayne, who was Ari Sterling during his time with WWE, revealed some insight into how he got his name.

Zayne said the process was “hectic” but did note that some people have it simpler than he did, so he’s not necessarily saying that’s always the case.

He was first asked to compile a list of “preferred names”, but when he sent a list over, he was asked to provide more.

When Ari was decided on for a first name, he wanted to keep the surname Zayne, but was told he couldn’t because Zayda Ramier had recently debuted and they sounded too similar.

I can’t think of one single human that would get mixed up between Ari Zayne and Zayda Ramier, but oh well. That just goes to show the baffling nature of how these names are determined sometimes.

Zayne had chosen the name Ari from the Ari Gold character in Entourage, so that’s where the Sterling came from too (as in Ari Silver).

His name was finalised just a couple of hours before he made his TV debut.
