Backstage details on Kenny Omega’s upcoming return to the ring after over a year out of action with diverticulitis.
Omega announced back in December 2023 that he had been diagnosed with diverticulitis, which has kept him out of the ring for almost a year.
However, Omega’s return to the ring is set to take place soon, with him returning to the ring for New Japan Pro Wrestling, taking on Gabe Kidd at the upcoming Wrestle Dynasty show.
Omega has previously spoken about returning to the ring for NJPW rather than AEW, stating that he doesn’t think AEW ‘needs’ him right now.
In an update on Omega’s upcoming in-ring return from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Omega is planning on taking it slow upon his return before going back full-time.
The idea is that he will ease himself into a full-time schedule later down the line, with the hope that everything holds up.
Kenny’s last match took place on the December 5, 2023 episode of AEW Collision, where he defeated Ethan Page, who has since left AEW and joined WWE, where he recently reigned as NXT Champion.
