UPDATE: Both Wade Keller of PWTorch and Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer have reported the meeting “went well”.
With CM Punk reportedly set to make a return to All Elite Wrestling in June, tensions between Punk and many people in the company have yet to be resolved.
A meeting was reportedly set to take place between Punk, Tony Khan, FTR and Chris Jericho to ease tensions ahead of Punk’s return.
Fightful Select had previously reported that Punk’s return was tentatively set for June, with the launch of a rumoured Saturday night AEW show titled Collision, as well as Jericho being pitched as a potential first opponent back for Punk.
In an update from Fightful Select (subscription required), the meeting between Jericho and Punk took place over the last week, with those familiar with the situation saying that the meeting was relatively uneventful, especially taking into account the issues that the two men have had.
When Punk initially joined AEW, Fightful notes that Jericho approached Punk to establish a clean slate between the two, with Punk agreeing so long as there was no reason for issues going forward between the two.
Jericho was said to have shouted at Punk following the events of the All Out media scrum, with Punk calling Jericho a ‘stooge’ in the now infamous Instagram story.
Sources familiar with the situation claimed that it seemed as though the two could end up working together without issue, but pointed out the recent history with Punk, as well as Jericho’s long-term history of welcoming confrontation.
One of the sources said that ‘it’s a positive that Jericho and Punk didn’t fight’, before jokingly following up with ‘well, yet.’
