Dave Meltzer has explained that Tony Khan rewrote this week’s episode of Dynamite to be a Brodie Lee tribute show after a conversation between the two.
This week’s show will be a celebration of Lee’s life, with the card being changed completely and now featuring Dark Order members all throughout the show.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer said:
“Last night I was actually talking to Tony Khan – and you know it’s a real bad situation – and he felt very pressured to put on this unbelievable show for Wednesday. He really felt it. He said he had some ideas and I mentioned some things that I am sure he had already thought about anyway. It wasn’t like I was giving him any ideas, although I did suggest a few things, and I don’t know if they are gonna do them or not. Then this morning I hear from him and he said , ‘After our conversation I stayed up all night and rewrote the entire show.’ So that was a decision from late last night because we were still talking about Kenny Omega and Fenix late last night. So that’s like midnight our time, roughly. He’s in Jacksonville, so it was like 3am maybe, then he stayed up all night to rewrite the show.”
Meltzer has since taken to Twitter to clarify that it’s not as if he had ‘inspired’ the show or anything like that, just that Khan had written it after the two had spoken about the subject.
The card is now as follows:
- Young Bucks & Colt Cabana vs. Matt Hardy & Private Party
- Eddie Kingston, The Butcher & The Blade vs. Lance Archer, Evil Uno & Stu Grayson
- MJF, Santana & Ortiz vs. Adam Page, John Silver & Alex Reynolds
- Anna Jay & Tay Conti vs. Britt Baker & Penelope Ford
- Cody Rhodes, Orange Cassidy & Pres10 Vance vs. Team Taz – Brodie Lee Jr dream match
