WWE announced earlier today that the planned match between Seth Rollins and Riddle for this Saturday’s SummerSlam premium live event in Nashville was cancelled due to an injury suffered by Riddle on this week’s Raw show.
WWE announced that Riddle had suffered a stinger, and that he will be out of action, meaning he will miss the match with Rollins at SummerSlam.
Fightful Select (subscription required) has provided more information on the injury, noting that the injury is kayfabe, and that there are plans to do the match further down the line.
Those that Fightful spoke to claim it was due to ‘creative adjustments’, and that talent was informed Monday, with the working plan being to have the match take place at Clash at the Castle in September, though it’s possible that also isn’t final given the ever-changing landscape of WWE.
As of now, Rollins is still expected to travel to Nashville for the show, and was scheduled for media obligations on Friday, but haven’t heard if those are still planned or not.
Rollins has now reacted to WWE cancelling his match, taking to Twitter to write:
For anyone who purchased a ticket to #SummerSlam hoping to see me in action, I apologize. I did everything I could over the last 6 months to earn my spot on this show, but some things are out of my control. Thank you for always singing my song. They’ll hear ya someday.
We recently broke down seven alternative options for Rollins at the show now his match with Riddle is off.
