Did Brock Lesnar Really CANCEL WWE Plans?! | WrestleTalk News

Roman Reigns Vs Brock Lesnar Plans

OK, yep, you’re doing that one.

On last week’s Raw, Kurt Angle announced that Extreme Rules would feature a multi-man match to become the No. 1 contender for Lesnar’s Universal title. Reigns and Bobby Lashley were made the first entrants, for other wrestlers to be confirmed over the following weeks.

But on Monday’s episode – amidst the latest bout of Brock returning to UFC rumors – Angle revealed that the No. 1 contenders match had been cancelled, blaming it on a “snag” in Lesnar’s contract. It was speculated this could be because of Brock’s real-life  plans to compete in MMA again, for which he would need to re-enter USADA’s testing pool by today, Friday 29th, to fight for the UFC in December this year.

The latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, however, is reporting that Brock’s contract “snag” is actually not to blame at all, and the Extreme Rules match being scrapped “is all storyline” – but the decision “was called a panic move”.

Apparently the original main event was going to be a six-way match, which Reigns, Lashley and Finn Balor were advertised for on the PPG Paints Arena website.

Longer term, this is reportedly just a retread of Roman and Brock’s feud going into WrestleMania 34, where WWE presented Lesnar as someone who didn’t care about the fans or wrestling, as a way to get the crowd to cheer for Roman by default. Instead, though, the audience just booed both guys and ruined the WrestleMania main event.

The major storyline difference this time is that Paul Heyman will threaten Brock “is leaving [WWE] with the belt and going to the UFC”. For Roman, “The idea is that nobody believes in Reigns but himself, and thus that will either make him sympathetic before the match (this is unlikely to work) or that at least coming out of it, there will be some grudging admiration for him”. Good luck with that!
